I received this book from the author in exchange for a honest reviewI think this author has great potential as a romance author I look forward to reading her future booksI liked this book but did not love it The two flaws I thought were1 The ending seemed to be rushed All of a sudden after refusing the heroes marriage proposal twice the heroine Hyacinth agrees to marry him Seemingly in the next chapter they get married Both families were against the marriage so I would have liked to see of how this was resolved2 There was a mystery about a stolen necklace I would have liked to read about thisOn to the story It starts in Gibraltar hyacinth and her half brother George are going to be sent to England by their father George will be enrolled in school and Hyacinth will stay with her Aunt Celia for the season Hyacinth is also going in order to claim her inheritance from her grandmothera famous courtesanLikewise the hero Thomas is returning to England because now he is the heir Thomas is ready to leave India because he has nothing left their now His mistress was murdered during an uprisingHyacinth and Thomas find themselves on the same ship and at first are adversarial with each other Hyacinth's father warned her away from Thomas He said he is the black sheep of his family They do eventually form a friendship on the ship My favorite passage in the book is where Hyacinth comes across Thomas crying in the rain It was extremely poignant They kiss and he offers her marriage because he believes he compromised her She declines and when they arrive in England they part waysAfter they are both settled they do see each other a couple of times in London Hyacinth meets Georgianathe heroes cousin I really liked her she knows that George likes Hyacinth and is not against the match Meanwhile Hyacinth has to sneak away to see her lawyer about her inheritance because her aunt does not approve Eventually this is the reason Hyacinth leaves her aunt's house and travels to the estate she inherited She travels to Lindley Hall and loves it there She is intending to start a school for disadvantaged girls and Georgiana agrees to help her The heroes family estate is next door and so Thomas visits her and they renew their acuaintance Eventually they have a HEAOverall a promising debut by an author with a bright future

They meet again in London where Hyacinth discovers Thomas's true identity Her fashion obsessed aunt reiterates her father's warning – Thomas can only embroil her in scandal Thomas's mother urges him to choose a bride fit for a duke – which Hyacinth most certainly is not Memories of their shipboard friendship and that stolen kiss draw them together again and again as they find their footing in an unfamiliar home country. This is the kind of book to make you wish you lived in the past just for a day to experience a slice of their world I really enjoyed the historical portrayal and the characters are interesting and bold Overall however there were a few short comings After adamant resistance it is not uite clear why Hyacinth finally gives into Thomas’ reuest for marriage In addition there was no challenge or major conflict that I was expecting as the climax of the book Instead things are smooth sailing after a certain point and the characters live happily ever after My major lingering uestion is what about the necklace If this were a mystery novel I’d say it was a red herring but as this is a romance it’s just a distraction I do not know if there’s an intention of a seuel where “all will be revealed” but for this book it didn’t add anything to the storyAll that being said I really enjoyed this book and happily read through it uickly in as few sittings as possible I think we will see great future books from this authorWarning Contains some sexual contentRating 3 starsWho should read it Historical romance fansPlease note I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review courtesy of Enchanted Book PromotionsSee all my reviews and at wwwReadingToDistractioncom or Read2Distract

Scandals HeiressMiss Hyacinth Grey has had a uiet life managing her father's household in Gibraltar Then she learns that she's heir to a small fortune left by her grandmother an infamous courtesan She sets sail for England with plans to found a charitable school for girls Her father warns her away from her fellow passenger aboard the Whistler saying that he's a black sheep from a family of scoundrels Thomas Pently alias Smithson made his. Very good For your first historical novel it was well written not sure about its history context since I'm not a history buff but for the most part the culture of that time seemed to flow well It would of been nice to hear of the past history between the pentlys and the greys as well of her grandmothers past But all in all it was a very god book
